Where is Chris - Aquarium Month

June is National Zoo and Aquarium month.  We've visited some amazing zoos and aquariums all around the United States and beyond.  During this pandemic, zoos and aquariums are having to adjust in order to keep the animals engaged since there are no regular guest visits.

What are some of the favorite animals your kids like to visit at the zoo?   What are their favorite attractions at the aquarium?  #KeepTheKidsEngaged

We hope you are enjoying this series of  "Where is Chris" posts.  We'd love your feedback on our social media.

Cruising Seattle - What Would a Foodie Do

Embarkation Seattle, Washington

Seattle, Washington is the embarkation port for west coast cruises to destinations such as British Columbia, Oregon, California, and my favorite, Alaska.

My advice, for any cruise, is to arrive at least the day before your cruise departs to avoid stress of same day travel, and give you some time to explore the destination. Seattle's Waterfront is a great location to spend your time prior to departure. There are many hotels within walking distance to the waterfront.  You may even be able to arrange an inexpensive shuttle to the pier from your hotel.

Pictured above is Miner's Landing and the Seattle Great Wheel on Pier 57 of Seattle's Historic Waterfront.  Take a ride on the Great Wheel and see Seattle from your 8 passenger gondola.  Day or night the view is amazing.   Grab something to eat in one of the restaurants along the Waterfront or just take a leisurely stroll along the pier.

Have You Seen Flying Fish

If not, you can in Seattle's Public Market.

The Pike Place Fish Market, founded in 1930, is an open air fish market located in Seattle, Washington's Pike Place Market, at the corner of Pike Street and Pike Place. It is known for their tradition of fishmongers throwing fish that customers have purchased, before they are wrapped.

The store is now a popular tourist destination in Seattle, attracting up to 10,000 daily visitors, and is often billed as world-famous.  A must-see for foodies.

There's much more to see and do in Seattle.  We'll cover more about this homeport in another blog post.   This week #FoodTravelChat is talking about World Markets.   Seattle's market is world famous and worth consideration for foodies and non-foodies alike.

Taste of Vietnam

Cu Chi Tunnels

If you are looking for a tour Off The Beaten Path, Cu Chi Tunnels & Countryside shore excursion is for you. Unless you were in Vietnam during the war, we doubt you could begin to imagine what this tunnel system was like. It was incredible to see how the tunnels were constructed and how this underground world was so instrumental during the war.

Our Gateway to Ho Chi Minh post details our visit to Cu Chi Tunnels, as well as the other sights featured on that shore excursion.   Since it was an all day tour, it included lunch.

Ad Ben Nay Restaurant

After a short drive from the tunnels we arrived at Ad Ben Nay Restaurant for lunch. It is as an open air restaurant located along the banks along a stream. It was quite a lovely setting with gentle breezes blowing through as we enjoyed our meal.

There was a set menu served family style. It consisted of grilled chicken (which was brought just as we were leaving), spring rolls, fried Basa filet fish with tomato sauce, braised pork in clay pot, seafood hot pot with noodles, steamed rice, and flan for dessert.   The meal included one beverage so everyone at our table opted for Saigon beer.

We walked around the grounds a bit and then boarded our motor-coach for the long trip back to Phu My.  Once again we made our way through the hustle and bustle of Ho Chi Minh city.

Some passengers wanted to stop for shopping, but since everyone didn't want to stop, we stuck to the schedule, making a brief bathroom stop and returned to the pier right on schedule. There were a few vendors selling souvenirs at the pier for those interested.

Dinner in the High North

Entering the High North

It was long thought that the Arctic was unsuitable for man, let alone for food production. But while early historians portrayed the High North as a barren land, Norwegians proved then wrong.

Day 5's dinner consisted of Creamed Carrot Soup with crispy cured ham, Baked Arctic Char from Sigerfjord served with pickled vegetable, baked beetroots and Gulløye potatoes from Troms, and Cloudberries from North Norway served with sour cream.  We were sailing just north of Tromsø when we sat down for our dinner in the main dining room.

Arctic Char

While we were sleeping, MS Vesterålen docked at Sortland and picked up fresh Arctic Char from Sigerfjord. The watersytems of Vesterålen , with deep cold waters and rivers, are perfect for these diadromous fish, which migrate between fresh and salt water.

Cloudberries grow all over Norway but it is only at high altitudes or far north that the plants yield fruit regularly.
