Celebrating a Special Birthday at Cagney's Steakhouse

          Craving a Steak Dinner?

Norwegian Cruise line's signature Cagney's Steakhouse proudly serves certified Angus Beef® brand steaks. How do you like yours done? You decide from Rare to Well Done, although I'd suggest something in the middle.

We were first exposed to Norwegian Cruise Lines's Freestyle Dining in 2001, when we sailed the inaugural voyage on Norwegian Sun. It was the first ship they build specifically to take advantage of their new dining options.

Much has changed since then, when we had to wait in long lines to enter a restaurant to today, where you can pre-reserve your dining options, or check onboard to see what venue has a short wait.  To enjoy specialty dining venues, select  al a carte pricing onboard the ship or purchase a dining package in advance of your voyage.

While we still like "traditional dining" where you have an assigned dining time and specific table assignment, freestyle dining is a welcome change, especially when you have a set schedule to adhere to, like we do during our conference cruise.  You decide when and where and with whom you want to dine each evening during your cruise.

Celebrate a Special Occasion

Cagney's Steakhouse was the scene of a special birthday dinner for one of our fellow agent friends during our Norwegian Bliss sailing.

Pictured here is the 20 oz. Potterhouse Steak, Cheese & Vegetable Marmite Soup, Onion Rings, and Au-Gratin Potatoes.  See the menu above for additional choices and al a carte pricing.  We finished the meal with a chocolate layer Birthday Cake provided by Norwegian Cruise Line.

Excursions in Breisach

One Large Cuckoo Clock

We departed the ship by motor coach for a drive through the Black Forest to a local woodcarver's store, where we got to see his handiwork.  Even before entering the building, we were treated to some specialty liquor of the region, known as Schwarzwälder Kirsch(wasser) which is distilled from tart cherries, as we watched a life sized cuckoo clock in motion.   Enjoy this video.

BLACK FOREST EXCURSION

We enjoyed the picturesque drive through the forests, which consist mainly of pine and fir trees.  Here is just a sampling of what we saw during this excursion.

Black Forest Gateau

This German region is well known for its Black Forest cake,  Schwarzwälder Kirschtorte which literally translates as "Black Forest cherry-torte".  The dessert consists of several layers of chocolate cake, with whipped cream and cherries between each layer. Then the cake is decorated with additional whipped cream, maraschino cherries, and chocolate shavings.

After enjoying a piece of cake and hot chocolate, we browsed through the shop, admiring the cuckoo clocks and other carved items.   We made our purchases and returned to the bus for our return trip to the ship.

Some of our fellow passengers had opted for the other included excursion to an Open Air Museum.  Both tours returned to the ship just in time for lunch, after which, we'd head for our optional tour to Colmar.

Celebrate a Special Occasion at Sea

Birthdays, Anniversaries, Weddings, Honeymoons, Graduations are some of the special occasions in our lives. If you are like most people, you surround yourself with family and friends to celebrate.

Sometimes you are surprised when family and friends get together and have a party or recognize your special day in some other fashion. When you look back on your life, those occasions may stand out more than others.

Perhaps you went with family and friends to a fancy restaurant and had a nice dinner to celebrate the event. The restaurant staff may have brought you a special treat and sung to you to recognize the occasion and help to make it a special day for you.

Celebrating your special day while on a cruise vacation is a great way to make your occasion memorable. Your cruise specialist can assist you in planning a special recognition during the cruise. Most cruise lines can provide a special treat with your dinner and many have decorations for your cabin. Gifts can be delivered to your cabin. The wait staff at dinner will even sing to you, in serveral different languages at once, if you'd like.

Couples celebrating special anniversaries, such as Silver or Golden, can be recognized by the Captain of the vessel with a special certificate and perhaps a party. You don't have to celebrate alone if you don't want to - you can book several cabins for family and friends and have your own private celebration.

There are many options for celebrating special occasions. We have had many celebrations at sea over the years and have really enjoyed them.
