Getting Close to Smallest Penguins

We made our next stop at the Nobbies Ocean Discovery Centre. Overlooking Bass Strait, the Nobbies Centre is the home of the interactive Antarctic Journey, along with spectacular clifftop boardwalks and views to the Nobbies and Seal Rocks. Here we explored the boardwalks, from where, if the weather is right, you can see the explosive blowhole in action.

We enjoyed the views out over the Nobbies Rock formations and beyond to Seal Rocks, home of Australia's largest fur seal colony. We got to see the smallest penguins in their little houses and under the boardwalk, staying out of the elements, as it was an overcast and cool day by the time we got to Phillip Island area.

There is free entry to the boardwalks, cafe and gift shop, as well as the interpretive display on penguin conservation on Phillip Island at the entrance to the Antarctic Journey paid attraction.

Due to construction at our hotel, our pickup point was just down the street at Holiday Inn Melbourne on Flinders, 575 Flinders Lane (meet at Flinders Lane entry) at 11:45 AM.

We got there a little early and our driver was there right on time.   He had picked up a couple guests already and from here we made additional hotel stops around town before heading to our first stop.

We got back to our starting point around midnight.  We'll look at each of the stops in more detail.  We'd highly recommend this tour and tour company if you ever visit Melbourne.

Journey Through Sea Life Melbourne

SEA LIFE Melbourne Aquarium
SEA LIFE Melbourne
Conservation Core

Our vision is of a world where our oceans are healthy, properly protected and full of diverse life.

We want all visitors to our aquarium to love the oceans and the creatures that live in them as much as we do. By sharing their beauty, we want to inspire you to help us protect them for generations to come.

When we planned our visit to Melbourne, we looked for attractions near our hotel and discovered SEA Life Aquarium.  As lovers of cruising, we have a similar philosophy as they do about conservation.  We want to be assured that future generations will be able to enjoy the sea as much as we have.  In fact, we have been members of our local Shedd Aquarium for over 25 years.  Our membership helps to support their conservation and education programs.

Initially we thought about purchasing advanced tickets online, but since we didn't know exactly when we were would arrive, we decided to just walk over to the aquarium and pay onsite.   It turns out that they had a senior discount there which was slightly less than the advance online purchase.

By now we were hungry, so we had a quick lunch and then started exploring the aquarium.   There are several zones for you to explore.  If you have followed us for awhile, you know my love for penguins.  I'll embed a video we took while we were enjoying the Gentoo and King Penguins.  We've posted several other videos on our YouTube Channel as well.  We hope you enjoy visiting the aquarium virtually.

How many different species of penguins can you name?  #KeepTheKidsEngaged.
