During National Hurricane Preparedness Week, we rededicate ourselves to preventing loss of life and damage to property by raising awareness about hurricane hazards and taking action to protect our families, our homes, and our neighborhoods. It is important for children to be part of the preparedness process. This year we've assembled some resources to help parents and educators work with children to prepare for danger.
National Hurricane Center: Live Broadcast for Students During this free 45-minute webinar, students heard from NHC scientists as well as NOAA AOC personnel who fly into hurricanes. The webinar covered hurricane hazards, forecasting, observing hurricanes with airplanes, and hurricane preparedness. Classroom questions were collected in advance of the webinar and questions were also answered live during the webinar.
The webinar was presented by the Hurricanes: Science and Society team at the University of Rhode Island's Graduate School of Oceanography in partnership with the NOAA National Hurricane Center and the NOAA Aircraft Operations Center. The purpose of the Hurricane Webinars is to raise awareness about hurricanes in advance of the 2018 North Atlantic hurricane season.
This PSA was designed to help kids about the dangers of a hurricane and how to prepare in case of one approaching.
