Winter Weather Delayed Queen Mary 2

Winter Storm Hercules Dumps Snow on Midwest, Northeast

When the weather at home is cold and snowy, travelers take to the seas to get out of town and head to somewhere warm. Imagine the surprise to Cunard Line Queen Mary 2 passengers as they embarked their ship in New York on January 3rd and found the scene above.

Queen Mary 2 arrived in New York ahead of schedule in order to avoid the worst part of the storm.  She didn't sail until after midnight to allow sufficient time for passengers to embark the vessel.  According to the line, the ship is still expected to arrive in Southampton, England on time January 10th.

Northeast Braces for Another Snowy Weekend

National Weather Forecast Courtesy NOAA (click for more details)

Northeast Regional Snow Potential (NOAA)
NORTHEAST BRACES FOR
ANOTHER SNOWSTORM

NWS and other weather forecasters are predicting another major snow storm for the Northeastern part of the United States starting today.

Major airlines have issued waivers for change fees in the affected areas.   Expect flight delays as the snow has already begun falling in parts of the region.

It appears that for the most part the snow will be light, but some areas are expected to get the brunt of the storm resulting in heavier accumulations.  There is an element of uncertainty due to the current conditions, so this is one storm that needs to be monitored closely for up-to-the-minute changes.

At press time we are not aware of any cruise line changes related to the storm but obviously anyone traveling in the region could be subject to delays.   We always recommend leaving early and always travel with trip insurance, especially during the winter months or hurricane season.

Why Not Northeast 2010

Close your eyes and think about your 2010 cruise vacation

What images do you see?

Perhaps you see unusual famed pink sand beaches and vibrant pastel homes or nature trails, kayaks and white water rafting or lighthouses and lobsters or people swimming with dolphins, parasailing and relaxing on the beach.

Where might you be? Do you give up? The answer is on a Royal Caribbean cruise somewhere in the Northeast. The 2010 Northeast Deployment schedule was announced today and cruises are available for booking.

Royal Caribbean will have three ships, the Enchantment of the Seas, Explorer of the Seas, and the Jewel of the Seas deployed in the Northeast for the 2010 season. The destinations include Bermuda, Bahamas, Canada, New England, and the Eastern Caribbean.

The ships will sail from Baltimore; Boston; Norfolk, VA; and Cape Liberty in Bayonne, NJ, on 84 cruises. You'll be able to select from five to nine-night cruises. Recognizing that many people want to avoid flying and instead depart from close-to-home ports, Royal Caribbean has launched the first year-round deployment in the Baltimore, Maryland port on the Enchantment of the Seas.

For more information about the Northeast destinations or the itineraries, consult my website or give me a call. I'd be happy to help plan your 2010 cruise vacation to one of these destinations.
