Port of Falmouth, Jamaica Opens

The long awaited official opening of Falmouth, Jamaica's new port "town" finally arrived.   Royal Caribbean's Oasis of the Seas made its first call in the new port today where it was greeted by a large crowd of locals and officials.

Those that have been following the development of this new port facility know that construction delays prevented an earlier opening this year.    Voyager of the Seas was actually the first ship to visit the new port last month, but the arrival of the Oasis of the Seas was always intended to signal the opening.

Several years ago, Royal Caribbean International,  in collaboration with the Port Authority of Jamaica (PAJ), entered into the joint venture to construct the all-inclusive resort town on the pier featuring contemporary shops, parks and landscaping, restaurants and bars.

Significant progress has been made since Voyager of the Seas visited, however work remains to be done to be fully operational.   Regardless, the town is very proud that this day has finally arrived and they were on hand to celebrate as the world's largest ship sailed into view.

Falmouth Port Explorer Guide provides a useful overview and history of this city, as well as maps, points of interest, and other essential information for tourists.
