2021 Together Mini-Series

2021 Together Banr
November 12 - 20, 2021

Dream Vacations’ National Conference is held annually aboard a cruise ship during a weeklong cruise. This years conference was held on Celebrity Apex. We learned about the newest offerings from cruise and land, as well as new business techniques from the Dream Vacations corporate team and other Dream Vacations colleagues. It was great being "Together" at sea on one of the newest ships in the industry.  Bookmark this post to read all about our conference and what it's like cruising again.

Cozy Up to the 2020 Vision Fireplace

When's the last time you saw a fireplace chat on a cruise ship?   Never - exactly !  In their "fireside chat"  Debbie and Drew, our executive leaders, discussed the pros and cons of this virtual conference as well as highlighting the week's events.   In upcoming sessions speakers will provide more information about the future of cruising, and how we, as Travel Advisors, will be key to helping people travel again safely.

We will have to wait to meet in person next year on Celebrity Apex.  Perhaps the hardest thing this year has been the inability to be with people and get hugs.  Virtual hugs just aren't the same. Missing also is the laughter, the comradery, and the energy from our typical National Conference.

On a positive note, we have 715 agents registered with additional suppliers in attendance bringing the total to 820.   That would be about 1500 with guests exceeding our normal attendance.

We were able to meet (virtually) many of the HQ staff that would be working behind the scenes while we were onboard the ship.  Suppliers, that might not have been able to travel to the conference, are here with us all week in our sessions, workshops, and office hours opening up the possibility for more interaction between the agent community and our suppliers.

As we emerge from 2020 we'll appreciate those in person meetings more.  We will embrace those moments and celebrate them.

There are lots of people to thank in making this Virtual National Conference a reality.  There are too many to name here for fear of leaving any of them out.    Of course, Andrea and Charity were part of the core team as usual.   This will be the "Best Virtual  National Conference Ever".   (Note:  this is our first one, so it has to be the best!)

State of the Industry

Next up on the agenda were an inside look at the state of the industry from three of the cruise line leaders, Frank Del Rio, president and CEO of Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings, Arnold Donald, CEO of Carnival Corporation, and Richard Fain, Chairman and CEO of Royal Caribbean Group.

We covered their sessions in depth in our previous post, Cruise Industry Leaders Share Their Vision.
This word cloud provides visual representation of their remarks.

The cruise industry is resilient, everyone has worked together to tackle the problems and to formulate a go forward plan, and they are all optimistic that we will be able to safely resume sailing soon.   Health and Safety remain Top Priority.

Together with CLIA and CDC, they have formulated plans that will be adopted across the industry. There's no competing on safety.  CDC only has one plan to review because they've all agreed to adopt the six pillars.  (see previous post: Reassuring Safe to Cruise for details of the plans).

Here's a final take-a-way from this morning's sessions.

 Virtual National Conference

November 9 - 12, 2020

Travel agents with Dream Vacations, CruiseOne® and Cruises Inc.® take to the high seas each year for their National Conference. Their annual award-winning weeklong National Conference, celebrated among industry thought leaders as the most comprehensive travel agent training at sea, was scheduled to be this week onboard Celebrity Cruises newest ship, Celebrity APEX.

Cruise lines are working with the CDC to implement new protocols for additional  health &safety of  passengers and crew in order to resume sailing.   Our conference cruise was rescheduled to next year.

Thanks to our sponsors and headquarters staff, the show must still go on - virtually.  We will be bringing you highlights from each day's events.  Bookmark this post or follow us on any of our social media accounts so that you don't miss anything.

We would have been bringing you updates live from Celebrity APEX this week, but instead, our conference has gone virtual.  We've sailed twice on her sister ship, Celebrity EDGE, so while we can't bring you live images from APEX, you can enjoy our time onboard EDGE.  Just click the image for our mini-series.

Each year our Dream Vacations, Cruise One, and Cruises Inc. National Conference raises funds for Make-A-Wish.  Our Make a Wish goal for the 2019 conference was $120,000. I'm happy to report that we exceeded that goal raising $136,000 during our one week conference.

You can watch me accepting the Dare (our theme) to take the plunge on the Abyss, at last year's conference, to support the fund raising efforts. There were several activities besides the Abyss which generated the money towards our goal. This year our conference goes Virtual - but we are still supporting Make-A-Wish with your help.

Meet Symphony of the Seas - Largest at Sea

SYMPHONY OF THE SEAS - OCT. 19-26, 2019
7 NIGHT EASTERN CARIBBEAN (R/T MIA)

This year's National Conference was held aboard the latest Oasis-Class ship, Royal Caribbean Symphony of the Seas which sailed out of the Port of Miami.  She is the largest passenger ship in the world by gross tonnage, at 228,021 GT, surpassing her sister Harmony of the Seas.

The ship's original itinerary called for a stop in Labadee, Haiti.  With the recent opening of Perfect Day at CocoCay, Bahamas, Royal Caribbean decided to alter our itinerary so that our travel advisors could experience this new island experience first-hand.  It was truly the highlight of the ports of call.

We also stopped in St. Maarteen (Dutch side) and San Juan, Puerto Rico.   Despite recent hurricanes, all of these destinations were open for business and ready to provide chills and thrills to guests.

This post serves as an anchor for our mini-series of posts about the conference and the largest ship. Please come back often for updates.

The images above give you a glimpse of the bold new ship. There is much more to explore both on the ship and our itinerary.
