Do you want to return to the sea on your favorite Carnival Cruise ship or perhaps experience their brand new Mardi Gras?  Would you want to have one of those yummy Guy Fieri Burgers?

If the answer to any of the above questions is yes, you aren't alone.

Today, Carnival Cruise line President Christine Duffy sent an update to their travel partners reporting on the three month period since cruises resumed on July 3, 2021.  Carnival Vista was the first to return to service out of Galveston.  Since then 10 additional ships resumed operations including the brand new Mardi Gras which is a remake of one of their legacy ships.  Of course, she's nothing like her namesake with modern attractions including BOLT, the first roller-coaster at sea.

There have been 98 voyages with 237,000 passengers enjoying one of the Carnival FunShips.  Without looking at the infographic, can you take a guess at how many Guy Fieri Burgers they consumed?   Well, it looks like most passengers had at least two of them since 499k burgers were served.

Christine Duffy Commented:

*Our resumption of service has provided much-needed vacations to hundreds of thousands of loyal guests, a boost to the economies in its homeport and port-of-call communities and opportunities for its shipboard team members to support their families in 120 countries around the world.

We announced plans to have 17 ships back in guest service by the end of 2021, with additional ships returning in January and February and the entire U.S. fleet back in guest operations by spring 2022."

It looks like 8,000 people have partially paid for their vacation by taking home $1000 jackpots from the casino.    If you are yearning to get back on a cruise (or perhaps you've never been on one before), this is the time to book while the crew to passenger ratio is low, everyone is vaccinated (keeping you healthy) and prices are at an all time low.

We are travel memory makers - let us turn your dreams into reality.

Healthy Cruising and the Royal Promise

Health Cruising - RCG Promise

"The safety and wellbeing of our guests and crew, and the communities we visit, is our top priority. In response to COVID-19, Royal Caribbean is evaluating every last detail of our operations to develop unprecedented standards that will keep you safe and healthy. That’s why we have assembled the Healthy Sail Panel, a group of the best minds and leaders in public health, biosecurity, epidemiology, hospitality and maritime operations. Their insights and recommendations are helping to drive our way forwards as we work to strengthen our current procedures and create new ones across the entire cruise experience. The panel will work alongside our new Public Health & Chief Medical Officer, Dr Calvin Johnson, who will lead the company’s public health initiatives and oversee our response to health crises. Our collective efforts will be shared with the cruise industry and other industries that may benefit from our findings – because we’re all in this together."

Healthy Return to Sailing

Royal Caribbean Group continues to collaborate with the Healthy Sail Panel, epidemiologists, health authorities and various governments around the globe to ensure a healthy and safe return to cruising for guests, crew and the communities visited. The Company also continues to prepare and develop its plan to meet the Framework for Conditional Sailing Order issued by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) for US sailings. Meanwhile most sailings remain suspended.

In December, Quantum of the Seas started operating out of SingaporeThe CDC  requested Royal Caribbean provide information about two of their COVID-19 safety technologies being used on Quantum.  We wrote about the first one, Muster 2.0 in a previous post.  With that technology, passengers no longer gather in large groups to complete the mandatory safety drill before sailing.

The second technology, the Tracelet™ is a patented technology which allows for contact tracing.

What is a Tracelet™?

Who needs to wear it?
What if I cannot wear it on my wrist?

The Tracelet™ is a comfortable, water-resistant, hypoallergenic wearable worn by all guests and crew during the cruise. The Tracelet™ helps Royal with contact tracing in the unlikely event of an onboard health concern. Therefore, everyone onboard regardless of age, needs to wear it.

Should you be unable to wear it on your wrist, they will find another way for you to wear it. Any guest who chooses not to wear the Tracelet™ will be unable to sail.

As cool as the Tracelet™ is, you might want to take it with you, but unfortunately you'll have to leave it onboard when the cruise ends for the next guests to use.

What Happens if Someone Tests Positive Onboard?

That's an excellent question that is on the minds of most perspective passengers.  First of all, since everyone eligible (currently 12 and over)  is starting out the cruise fully vaccinated and/or with a negative test, odds are in your favor that this won't happen.  But if it does, Royal Caribbean Group (all brands) has your back.  The following information should ease your mind.

Upgraded Medical Facilities & Expert Care

"There’s nothing more important than your health and safety. Our high-quality medical care includes doctors and nurses onboard each sailing and state-of-the-art equipment onboard. And in the event of a suspected case of COVID-19, we’re fully prepared with immediate medical evaluations, rapid COVID-19 testing and dedicated zones for COVID-19 care, more critical care beds on each ship, and robust treatment plans."   Read More (click here).
Identification / Containment / Providing Care & Assistance

These are the pillars behind Royal Caribbean's protocols to handle a medical emergency of this nature.  Thanks to the Tracelet™  and the technology behind the scenes,  Royal Caribbean can quickly determine who you've been in contact with and take steps to contain further infection.   By definition that means anyone that was within 6 feet for 15 minutes or more which can be determined by the technology.

Editor Note:   Think about this:   If you tested positive at home - would you know who you were in contact with and for how long?

We've already mentioned that they have upgraded their medical facilities and can isolate patients as necessary.   The next thing they do may be unexpected.

Medical Evacuation

When a passenger is identified with COVID-19, the Royal Caribbean Care Team onboard takes over.  The team will get them the necessary treatment onboard and arrange for private transportation back home.

Transportation will be provided by private air ambulance paid for by Royal Caribbean.  Even if you are not exhibiting symptoms, this arrangement is used to ensure you have proper care should you need it in transit.   You will be delivered to your doorstep by the transport team assuring that you are completely cared for.

Editor Note: Can you think of another hospitality provider that would provide this level of care?  While this is for all brands of cruise lines that are part of Royal Caribbean Group, other lines have similar care that they can provide.  Check with your travel professional during your cruise planning.

Returning to Cruise First-Hand Account

Adventure Onboard Experience

In the 61st edition of Coffee Talk with Vicki Freed this morning, Royal Caribbean shared first-hand experiences from a travel agent guest, Beci Mahnken, who sailed on the first sailing of Adventure of the Seas from Nassau Bahamas.

Recovery - Just Around Corner

As Beci, and the group of associates traveling with her, began their trip they were filled with weird emotions.  For months, just like us, they were engaged in "removal of dreams" as they processed cancellations.  They were very excited to get back to cruising as it signaled to them that recovery was just around the corner.  Journey with them as they embark on this 7 day voyage from Nassau

Bahamas Check-in

Vaccination requirements
The cruise out of the Bahamas was with fully vaccinated crew and guests.  The test before traveling went away, so the only requirement was to complete the Bahamian Health Visa.  Completing this was easier than they had expected.  You fill the visa out on your phone by entering your information and uploading a copy of your vaccination card.
Antigen test
There's about a 3-4 hour approval process.

At your designated check-in time you show your vaccination card and passport.  An antigen test (nose swab) is done and you are taken to another room where your passport and documentation is checked.  The waiting time is about 20 minutes in this room.  You watch for your email to be posted which indicates a negative test.  Once this is completed you board a shuttle to the ship.

The main takeaway was that the entire process was seamless / easy with no stress.

Crew Happy to See Them

While the crew were all wearing masks, you could see the smiles through them as they greeted the guests onboard.  With  the limited capacity on the ship, the crew outnumbered passengers.  Walking around the ship they were greeted with "Welcome Home" and "Welcome Onboard".   They too are travel professionals in their own right who's main job is to help make dreams come true.  They missed doing that just like we missed putting our guests on cruises and land vacations.

Staterooms were cleaned twice a day, just as usual.  There was lots of emphasis on cleaning throughout the voyage.  Ships have always put emphasis on keep the ship clean and sanitary even before the pandemic.

Muster 2.0
Muster 2.0

One of the most noticeable changes in the embarkation process was the new and improved muster drill (safety briefing).   No longer to do you need to put your vacation on pause to gather for the safety briefing.  You simply watch the video on your phone's app or in your stateroom then at your leisure check-in at your assigned muster station.

There you are given a 1-1 briefing of how to put on your life jackets and you have the ability to have any questions answered.  This is very helpful, especially for first time cruisers.

Once you've checked in, you'll have sticker placed on your card indicating completion of the briefing. We've been told that this modification to the briefing is here to stay even if some of the other protocols go away,

Guests onboard
Onboard Experience

Since the ship sailed at 30% capacity it was like having the entire ship to yourself.  There were signs posted around the ship reminding guests about social distancing.  One change were elevators were limited to one group (maximum 4 guests) at a time, so you might have to wait awhile for an elevator.   It did beat being crammed into the elevators though.

Dining

There were a few changes with dining.  You could dine with anyone linked to your reservation.  Paper menus were on the table but if you weren't comfortable with that, there was  a QR code that you could scan to view an online version of the menu.

You are probably wondering about Windjammer (buffet).   The same great selections were available. The only difference was that the crew served you. This was also true at drink stations.  They saw this as  an improvement over having everyone's hands on the serving utensils as was the case in the past.

Entertainment

The same wonderful shows as expected from Royal Caribbean's production company.  Some rows / seats were blocked off to allow for social distancing.   The same was true in the Casino where some machines were closed and tables had limited seating capacity.

Perfect Day at Coco Cay
Perfect Day at Coco Cay

All the thrills and chills of Royal Caribbean's private island awaited them as they arrived at Perfect Day at Coco Cay.  They decided to splurge and purchased on of the over water cabanas for the day.

The food was amazing including Filet Mignon, Lobster Tail, Chicken and Grouper.  They ate to their heart's content and enjoyed the cabanas immensely.   They highly recommend Coco Beach Club - it was worth the money to them.

Overall Experience

Experiencing the ship at 30% capacity was amazing! The crew was very friendly and attentive. Everything you expect in a cruise experience was there. They won't hesitate to book their guests on Royal Caribbean ships out of the Bahamas and elsewhere.

Thank you Vicki and Royal Caribbean for arranging this opportunity to learn about the experience onboard Adventure of the Seas as you return to cruising. It is comforting to see all the attention to detail that has been put into taking care of our guests onboard your ships as you resume operations.
